Florence Advent Choir Festival - 1st edition

Each group will perform 3 pieces. The total performance must be from 9 to 15 minutes
 
Rules for each category

Categories A, B, C, D, E, F, I

1. one work of classical repertoire
2. one work composed from the choir's country of origin
3. one work of the choir's own choice

Category G

1. one work of Renaissance polyphony a cappella
2. one work composed from the choir's country of origin
3. one work of the choir's own choice
 
Category H
1. one work of italian repertoire with custom arrangement
2. one work composed from the choir's country of origin
3. one work of the choir's own choice
 
Category I
1. one work from the great American Jazz repertoire
2. one work by a composer from the choir's home country
3. one work of the choir's own choice
 
Category L

1. one work composed before year 1400
2. one work composed before year 1600
3. one work composed before year 1750

- minimum one piece must be a cappella
- one piece must be from italian repertoire
- one piece must be from the choir's country of origin

Category M

1. one obligatory work composed by the official composer of the year (organizers will send score)
- for Children Choirs
- for Female Choirs
- for Male Choirs
- for Mixed Choirs
2. one work of modern music (1900-2000)
3. one work composed after 2000
- minimum one work must be a cappella
 
AT LEAST ONE PIECE IN EVERY CATEGORY MUST BE OF ADVENT AND CHRISTMAS MUSIC


PRIZES

In each category the jury will assign the following prizes:

1st place: Gold Medal, Golden Diploma
2nd place: Silver Medal, Silver Diploma
3rd place: Bronze Medal, Bronze diploma

SPECIAL PRIZES

1 - The Golden David
2 - The Best Conductor
3 - The Best Male and Female Soloist
4 - The Best Performance of Italian Composer's Work
5 - The Best Contemporary Composer Arrangement
6 - The Best Choreography
7 - The Best Traditional Costumes

The Golden David, a very special prize, will assigned to the best Choir or Ensemble for excellent artistic performance. It consists of a statue of the Michelangelo's David, the emblem of Florence and our Festival.

All choirs which do not receive a prize will get the Diploma of successful participation in Festival.


JURY
Performance will be judged by international jury members, including conductors, opera singers, composers.
The Jury will judge: intonation, vocal production, interpretation, diction and general artistic effect.
The decisions of the Jury are final.

The Jury, after consideration of all artistic matters, may not award some prizes or may award joint or additional prizes.

 
ENROLLMENT RULES

The Festival enrollment fee for each choir is 200 euros and 150 euros for every supplemental category, non refundable.
The enrollment fee for non-competitive choirs is 200 euros.
In order to be admitted in the Competition and Festival, the payment of enrollment fee is required.

Subscriptions deadline is extended until 10th October 2016
After receiving the application form, each group will be contacted by email and receive detailed information on further steps and the payment policy.

COPYRIGHT
Each choir is responsible for obtaining copyrights and permission to use all material during their performance at the festival.

 
TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS

Each choir including the conductor, accompanying persons and bus drivers
shall pay their own travel, accommodation and meals expenses.
For organisational and logistic reasons is not possible for the choirs to book hotel by theirselves. Payment for accommodation must be paid directly to the Festival organisation by bank transfer 

Travel

Each choir will provide itself to the reservation of its travel.
The organization can reserve private bus on request at Choir expenses for
visits and tours.

Accommodation

Accommodation for all choirs will be organized by the Festival in singles, doubles, triples rooms in 3 stars Hotels in the center of Florence, according to
prices published on the Accommodation section on our website.
The organization can arrange accommodation also in 4 stars or 2 stars hotels on request.
On request the staff of the Festival can organize a longer stay in Florence and other italian cities.


Meals

The Festival will organize the meals for all the choirs in typical florentine restaurants serving traditional italian food with quick service and cheap prices. Please refer to Accommodation section on our website.Nevertheless each choir will have the chance to organize the meals itself.
 
At the end of the Festival there will be a dinner for all the conductors in a typical Tuscan restaurant in the historical center of Florence, offered by the organization.
